Transit Advocates, a UCI student group, is hosting a week’s worth of events to promote, discuss and evaluate public transportation in Orange County. Transit Week highlights include a roundtable discussion, “How to Improve Transit,” from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the Student Center, featuring Orange County Transportation Authority CEO Will Kempton and OCTA director Peter Buffa. An OCTA demo bus will be on Ring Mall from 8-3 p.m. Tuesday, April 5. “For a school of over 27,000 students – and Orange County’s largest employer – it’s shocking how little public transit connects UCI with the rest of the county,” said David Weinreich, founder and president of Transit Advocates. In the face of large service cuts at OCTA in 2010, the group worked to get a Saturday bus line added linking the campus with the Irvine Spectrum and the Irvine Transportation Center.
