

Toward the Common Good
In this winter edition of UC Irvine Magazine, we highlight how the university’s far-reaching work buoys social advancement “For the Common Good.” “Better Health for Everyone” profiles the new Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health and its mission to innovate in a field faced with myriad global challenges. “Advancing Science for the Common Good” details how UC Irvine researchers are on the forefront in searching for better health treatments – and cures – to improve lives. “Forever in Its Prime” celebrates the 20th anniversary of a much-replicated UC Irvine program that trains future doctors to care for Latino patients and other underserved communities, while “A Graduation Unlike Any Other” follows a first: the commencement of 23 incarcerated men who earned bachelor’s degrees in sociology, thanks to UC Irvine faculty. “Fire Knows No Season” covers campus researchers who are trying to understand the nature and impact of wildfires to prevent deadly events like the recent Palisades and Eaton fires.
