It’s impressive how much growth and healing can result from each of these steps. For example, regarding “limit exposure to the news,” University of California, Irvine, psychologist [and psychological sciences Professor] Roxane Cohen Silver notes too much media of any kind can undermine mental health and amplify distress. In one staggering example, she and her colleagues studied the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013 and found that people with the most hours of media exposure of the event had higher acute stress than people who were directly exposed to the bombings.
