Why coronavirus deaths have not paced the soaring cases in Orange County
Andrew Noymer, a professor of public health at UC Irvine and epidemiologist who specializes in pandemic mortality, said it’s tempting to hope for fewer deaths this wave because the coronavirus has shifted toward younger people who tend to fare better and doctors now are better at treating it. … Dr. Richard Lee, a pulmonary critical care specialist at UCI Medical Center in Orange, said doctors and nurses are mastering COVID-19 patient care with now-proven medicines and treatment techniques available. At his hospital, Lee said “mortality in general is trending downwards because we’re becoming more proficient and smarter about caring for this disease.”
