Workshops to mark Clinical Translational Research Day

“Think tank” workshops focusing on young adult autism care and the intersection of justice and science will highlight this year’s Clinical Translational Research Day on Friday, June 3, at the UCI Student Center. Hosted by the Institute for Clinical & Translational Science, the free public event will also feature keynote speaker Dr. Thomas Insell, director of clinical neuroscience at Verily (formerly Google) Life Sciences and former director of the National Institute of Mental Health. Afterward, the first workshop – “Transition to Independence: The Looming Crisis for Autism-Affected Children, Adults, Families, Caregivers & Society” – will provide an opportunity for community leaders, scientists, patients, employers, healthcare professionals and others to share ideas and solutions for providing continued support for young adults with autism spectrum disorder. In the afternoon, a group including Orange County Superior Court judges Erick L. Larsh and Fred Slaughter will discuss the growing role of biomedical research in our justice system in a workshop called “Where the Rubber Hits the Road: Justice & Science in Orange County Superior Courts.” Specifically, the panel will look at preventing abuse and neglect.
