The American Chemical Society has named Professor Doug Tobias and ACS Fellow  — a prestigious honor bestowed upon 96 distinguished scientists who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments and contributions to ACS.  “I was surprised but delighted to receive this honor at this stage of my career,” Tobias said. “I am indebted and very grateful to the many colleagues, collaborators, and co-workers who have enriched my research and supported my work.”  Tobias develops methodology for atomic-level computer simulation of condensed phase systems. The methodology is applied to the study of protein dynamics in solutions and membranes, and to interfaces that are relevant to atmospheric chemistry. He is the third UC Irvine chemistry professor to be recognized, and he was honored a ceremony in September.
