California coronavirus surge may be more like a wave this winter, experts say

Andrew Noymer, an epidemiologist, [associate professor of population health and disease prevention] and demographer at UC Irvine, said the storm is clearly on the horizon. “We’re going to have a surge. It will be bad,” he said. “It will be worse than the summer, but it won’t be as bad as last winter.” … Folks need to get their heads around the fact that the virus is here to stay, and act accordingly, UCI’s Noymer said. “People keep asking when will it be endemic — and this is a lot what endemicity looks like. Winter peaks and summer troughs, though we’re still having summer peaks with the variants.”
