Three departments in the School of Biological Sciences have received awards from the Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need program, totaling $1.6 million in grants and 12 three-year fellowships. GAANN provides support for graduate students with excellent records who demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue the highest degree available in their field at their institution. The departments of developmental & cell biology and neurobiology & behavior each got $400,000 for graduate fellowships, and the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology garnered $800,000. Overall, UCI received $3.6 million in GAANN grants and funding for 27 three-year fellowships.
