Richard Matthew, director of UCI’s Center for Unconventional Security Affairs, spoke at a sold-out TEDx conference last month at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. TED (technology, entertainment, design) is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas through public talks. Matthew discussed natural resources, peace building, and how environmental stress contributes to violence in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The theme of the Orange Coast conference was “Innovation Without Borders.”
