Fresh off an exciting NCAA playoff regional series triumph at UCLA, five Anteater baseball players have been selected in the Major League Baseball first-year player draft. Leading the way was junior right-handed pitcher Matt Summers, the 2011 Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year, who was chosen in the fourth round by the Minnesota Twins. Following Summers were outfielder Drew Hillman (18th round, Philadelphia Phillies), third baseman Brian Hernandez (27th round, Los Angeles Angels), shortstop D.J. Crumlich (38th round, Pittsburgh Pirates) and infielder Jordan Leyland (44th round, Tampa Bay Rays). Before considering their professional careers, these five Anteaters and their teammates will head east to play the top-rated Virginia Cavaliers in the super regional playoff starting June 10, with the winner going to Omaha, Neb., for the College World Series, which begins June 18.
