UCI Living Peace speaker series to debut with Charlize Theron
Richard Branson and Dalai Lama also on the program co-sponsored by Center for Living Peace Orange County.
UCI’s connection with the Dalai Lama dates back to his 2004 visit to the campus and establishment of theXIV Dalai Lama Endowed Scholarship, now in its fifth year of supporting UCI students who demonstrate a commitment to ethical leadership, peace and positive global relations. Current recipients Bethel Mesgana and Doug Cheung are using their scholarship to develop instructional programs on compassionate healing.
Founded by Newport Beach philanthropist Kelly Smith on the belief that “good happens,” theCenter for Living Peace Orange County provides a place where children, families and adults of all ages can connect to self, spirit, others and the world and feel inspired to make a difference.

Academy Award-winning actress and United Nations Messenger of Peace Charlize Theron will appear with Dr. Michael Bennish, founder and executive director of Mpilonhle, to discuss the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, which promotes safety and health among impoverished children and communities in South Africa – with a focus on those suffering from HIV/AIDS. There will also be a VIP event benefiting the outreach project.
