UC Irvine’s Men in Blaque were awarded three gold medals and a championship trophy at the 2010 World Choir Games this month in China. Conducted by Joseph Huszti, UCI professor of music, the Men in Blaque won gold medals in men’s chamber ensemble, folk song and contemporary music. As one of the championship choirs, they were invited to sing at the final concert before an audience of more than 8,000. The 18-voice group performs a wide variety of music, from Broadway musicals to Gregorian chants. The men have been invited to international festivals in Korea, Mexico, Spain and Austria.
