Juan Bruce-Novoa, professor of Spanish & Portuguese, passed away recently at the age of 66. Bruce-Novoa (pictured with his wife, Mary Ann Giroux Bruce) co-founded UC-Mexicanistas, an international association for the study of Mexican literature and culture, and published numerous articles on the Ruptura generation of artists, architects and writers in Mexico. “Juan was an exceptional colleague, intellectual and friend, and his loss is huge for the department, UCI and Hispanic studies in the world,” says Gonzalo Navajas, professor of Spanish & Portuguese. Friends and colleagues can post remembrances at http://juanbrucenovoa.wordpress.com/.
