UC Irvine’s Parking & Transportation Services has won a 2010 Campus Technology Innovator award in the student systems and services category for its automated bike-sharing program. ZotWheels allows students, faculty and staff to share bicycles stationed in special racks around campus. Members of the program check out bikes with the swipe of a card and return them to any station at the end of the day. It’s the second such system at a university in the nation. Editors of Campus Technology magazine and the judging committee selected ZotWheels as one of 11 projects to be honored out of almost 500 entries. Awards will be bestowed at a conference in July, and the magazine’s August issue will feature the winners.
