Virginia Trimble, UCI physics & astronomy professor, will receive the 2010 George Van Biesbroeck Prize from the American Astronomical Society. The award honors individuals for long-term extraordinary or unselfish service to astronomy. Trimble (pictured) has published in excess of 600 papers, 16 of them annual reviews of astrophysics (1991 to 2006). She also has served on more than 100 committees for about 10 professional societies and has talked to small college and community groups for three decades. Trimble studies the structure and evolution of stars and galaxies and the history of astronomy.
