Bill Mulligan, who brought national acclaim to the UCI men’s basketball program in the 1980s, died Jan. 12 at the age of 79. Mulligan was head coach for 11 seasons (1980-91), compiling a 40-17 record in his first two seasons. He led the Anteaters to the National Invitation Tournament in 1982 and 1986, when he was named the Pacific Coast Athletic Association Coach of the Year. He was inducted into the UCI Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998 and the California Community College Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Mulligan is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons Billy Jr., Shawn and Brian; and sister Kay Huguelet.
