UC Irvine’s head baseball coach, Mike Gillespie, will be inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Friday, Jan. 8, at the ABCA convention in Dallas. Gillespie, who is in his third season with the Anteaters, was named 2009 Big West Conference Coach of the Year after leading UCI to its first league title, a No. 1 national ranking for six weeks and the program’s fourth straight trip to postseason play. UCI, which was 45-15 overall last season, in May hosted an NCAA regional for the first time. In his 22 seasons as head coach at USC and UCI, Gillespie has compiled 850 victories and guided his teams to 17 NCAA postseason appearances, including a 1998 College World Series title at USC. The ‘Eaters have won 87 games over the past two seasons under Gillespie.
