Von Hoff is director of the Arizona Health Sciences Center’s cancer therapeutics program and chief scientific officer for US Oncology Inc. He also is executive vice president of the Translational Genomics Research Institute and heads its translational drug development division and pancreatic cancer research program.

Von Hoff and colleagues helped develop many of the anticancer agents now used routinely by oncologists, such as mitoxantrone, paclitaxel and gemcitabine. Currently, they’re working on molecularly targeted therapies.

Among his many honors, Von Hoff served on President Bush’s National Cancer Advisory Board from June 2004 to March 2010. He’s past president of the American Association for Cancer Research and a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
