UC Irvine’s Contemporary Arts Center, in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, has won a national project award from the Design-Build Institute of America, an organization that defines, teaches and promotes best practices in design-build. According to the institute, UC Irvine’s arts center “enhances the campus, elegantly resolves functional requirements, continues to delight the users and gives the owner an incredible value.” Design-build is an integrated approach that delivers design and construction services under one contract with a single point of responsibility. Award-winning projects were selected for their advanced and innovative application of design-build best practices, as well as achieving budget and schedule goals and exceeding owner expectations. Building categories include civic, commercial, correctional, industrial/process/research, educational, healthcare, office, rehabilitation/renovation/restoration, transportation and water/wastewater.
