But that’s not all the data shows, said Bernadette Boden-Albala, dean of UC Irvine’s public health program. Cases and hospitalizations have grown significantly in the last couple weeks, she said, and “it’s not just around the hot zones – we’re seeing much more spread around the county.” … But Boden-Albala and Daniel Chow, a UC Irvine researcher who studied data from more than 800 people who were either tested or treated for COVID-19 at the university’s medical facilities, worry that people who don’t live near the hot spots have let their guard down prematurely.
