Andrea Henderson and Alexander Huezo will use their Fulbright awards to conduct research in South Korea and Colombia, respectively. UC Irvine

UC Irvine scholars Andrea Henderson and Alexander Huezo have received Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program awards for the 2024-25 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Henderson, a professor of English, will use her Fulbright to visit Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, where she will teach one graduate course and do research on a project titled “Korea in the Camera: The Physics of the Victorian Encounter Narrative.” Huezo, an assistant professor of global and international studies, will use his Fulbright to support his research efforts in Cali and Buenaventura, Colombia, with the Pacifico Task Force on the impacts of natural rights (e.g., for rivers) for ethnic communities. He’ll also teach an environmental justice workshop at ICESI University’s Center for Afro-Diasporic Studies.

Fulbright U.S. Scholars are faculty, researchers, administrators and established professionals teaching and/or conducting cutting-edge research with foreign institutions. They also expand their networks of contacts, often continuing collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for future partnerships between institutions. The deadline to apply for 2025-26 Fulbright awards is Sept. 16. Upcoming webinars on Fulbright opportunities may be found here, and archived webinars are here.
