UCI and local disaster response authorities to hold drill at Anaheim retirement facility

EVENT:  Disaster drill to test use of CareDEX smart-space technology in evacuation of residents at Orange County elder care facility.

WHEN/WHERE:  10:20 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, Walnut Village Retirement Community, 891 S. Walnut St, Anaheim, CA 92802.

BACKGROUND: The drill will involve UCI computer science and geriatric medicine researchers, residents of the Walnut Village Retirement Community, Anaheim, Orange County, California State, and national emergency management personnel. The drill will demonstrate the effectiveness of CareDEX, a smart-space technology that enables the secure collection and sharing of vital information on elder care patients among first responders, caregivers in senior housing facilities and older adults.
