Heart disease, cancer and COVID-19: Orange County’s leading causes of death in 2020
UC Irvine public health professor Andrew Noymer, who specializes in mortality, said the large tallies caused by major categories such as cancer and heart disease were no surprise. But the data also counters early concerns that the coronavirus and the flu would coalesce into a so-called “twindemic” this winter. … “The twindemic has fizzled,” Noymer said …. Safety measures that help contain the coronavirus, such as wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands frequently, also help prevent the spread of flu.
