Andrew Noymer, an epidemiologist and an associate professor of public health at UC Irvine, said with the improving health conditions in the county, he’s comfortable with campuses opening, but he still has some concerns with students being asymptomatic – meaning they have the virus, but aren’t showing symptoms. “My biggest fear is actually not the children,” he said. “Kids really don’t get sick from this bug. They get infected, so they test positive, but illness is quite rare. “I’m worried the role infection can play in transmission.”
