Colleges tap tech to calm students paying for remote classes

The University of California, Irvine has sent almost 300 students laptops and Wi-Fi hotspots. Almost 40% of those who attend the college qualify for Federal Pell grants that are given to low-income candidates. Tom Andriola, chief information officer for the University of California System, hopes the effort brings “equity in terms of the ability to access the internet and to watch a live stream lecture, or be able to access systems.”
