UC workers protest hundreds or low-wage, dining working layoffs
About a dozen workers gathered on the corner of Chapman Avenue and The City Drive near the UC Irvine Medical Center on Wednesday, yelling “No layoffs at UCI!” and “Treat your heroes like you should!” in front of a sign saying “Heroes Work Here.” Alfredo Lopez, a certified nurse assistant at UCI Medical Center, said he’s been on the front line battling COVID-19 while dealing with what he sees as a lack of supplies, such as N95 masks.
