Delayed COVID-19 aid spurs search for faster payments

Mehrsa Baradaran, a professor at University of California, Irvine School of Law, warns that solutions relying on digital payments will leave many behind.  “There are also many places without internet access, so these solutions would not work for everyone,” she told CQ Roll Call. Baradaran has pushed for the U.S. to revive banking at post offices in order to extend financial services to the underbanked. Her ideas provided a foundation for Fed Accounts, which could incorporate postal banking.
