Epidemiologists cannot point to any conclusive evidence after years of studies. Almost all the research suffers from small sample sizes or confounding variables that distort results. “It’s all a little mysterious, but that’s science for you,” says Andrew Noymer, a public health professor at the University of California Irvine. “People look to science for really crisp advice.
