UC Irvine cancels graduation ceremonies amidst coronavirus concerns

Graduation ceremonies at UC Irvine have been cancelled as a precaution to the outbreak of novel coronavirus, officials announced this week. “We are saddened to share that the UCI Commencement Ceremonies will not take place in the same way as previous years,” Willie L. Banks Jr., the vice chancellor for student affairs, said in a message to students Friday, March 13. … “We understand that commencement is an important part of the UCI experience and we want to honor our students while still keeping our community safe,” Banks said. Further details for graduating students will be released in the coming weeks, he said.
