BACKGROUND: The Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism combats extremism, terrorism and all forms of hate both in the real world and online. Much of Segal’s time as director has been devoted to evaluating the activity and tactics of extremist groups and movements across the ideological spectrum, training law enforcement officers, and publishing reports and articles on a wide range of extremist topics.

He has briefed members of Congress; is regularly interviewed by national and international media outlets; and shares his expertise at conferences around the world on terrorism, extremism and anti-Semitism.

This event is sponsored by UCI’s Confronting Extremism Initiative, which is coordinated by the Office of Inclusive Excellence and dedicated to understanding ideas and behaviors far outside of alignment with university values in order to identify meaningful pathways to a positive campus climate and democratic communities.
