EVENT: UCI will welcome 1,100 local high school students at the Bren Events Center for the 2019 College Signing Day rally. May 1 is the deadline for high school seniors to accept college admission offers for fall. Former first lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative is hosting a College Signing Day event across the entire University of California system. Obama will address all UC campuses via livestream from UCLA. UCI will pause its rally to hear her talk.

BACKGROUND: College Signing Day is a national celebration of all high school seniors and transfer students – especially those from low-income, underrepresented and first-generation backgrounds – who have committed to pursuing higher education. The University of California was selected by Reach Higher to co-host the 5-year-old initiative’s first College Signing Day event on the West Coast. Festivities will be held at UC’s nine undergraduate campuses.
