Last weekend’s flurry of commencement ceremonies in UCI’s Bren Events Center brought many memorable scenes of exultation, pride and Anteater spirit. The university awarded nearly 9,800 undergraduate and graduate degrees this academic year: 8,616 bachelor’s, 687 master’s, 240 Ph.D.s, 115 J.D.s and 95 M.D.s. For the second year in a row, more than half the bachelor’s degrees were earned by first-generation college students. Over 2,000 went to Latinos, 2,536 to community college transferees and 3,284 to Pell Grant recipients. Here are some graduation highlights:
