BACKGROUND: Amy Hu says it was no coincidence that her father moved the family to a home within walking distance of UCI before her first year of junior high. Unable to finish his graduate program due to financial hardship after coming to the U.S. from Taiwan, her dad wanted to ensure that UCI was foremost in his three daughters’ college plans. Hu’s commencement speech thanking him will be a very special Father’s Day gift.
