BACKGROUND: The Paul Merage School of Business 2016 Business Plan Competition at UCI Applied Innovation is one of the nation’s premier programs of its kind. It offers UCI students, staff, and researchers the opportunity to form a team, create a plan and potentially fund their business idea all within six months.

At the signature competition kick-off Nov. 5, 2015, participants learned details about prizes, rules and registration procedures, and met winners from previous years. Participants then formed teams, submitted their concept papers, attended competition-related workshops and turned in their final business pitch deck on April 28. Between the kick-off and the finals, expert practitioners from across Orange County offered six workshops on business plan development. The competition also provided individual team coaches to all teams that qualified for the semi-finals.

The 2016 Business Plan Competition is sponsored by UCI Applied Innovation, The Paul Merage School of Business, the Beall Family Foundation, the UCI Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation, Microsemi, Stradling Attorneys at Law, Fish & Tsang Intellectual Property Law, Nguyen & Tarbet Patent Trademark Copyright Law, Iris Technology, Calit2 and the UCI School of Medicine.
