Play AnteaterTag@UCI and leave your mark on campus history
The UC Irvine Libraries invite the campus community, alumni and the public to play AnteaterTag@UCI, a game in which contestants view and describe digital photographs from the Libraries’ Online Archive of UCI History. Participants will enrich what’s known about these historical images from the University Archives and contribute to UC Irvine’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2015.
Irvine, Calif., Jan. 13, 2014 – The UC Irvine Libraries invite the campus community, alumni and the public to play AnteaterTag@UCI, a game in which contestants view and describe digital photographs from the Libraries’ Online Archive of UCI History. Participants will enrich what’s known about these historical images from the University Archives and contribute to UC Irvine’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2015.
The current phase of competition is open through Feb. 28. Go to anteatertag.lib.uci.edu to access any of the four AnteaterTag games. Points are awarded based on the number and quality of tags. Anyone can play, but registration is required for prize eligibility. The top 15 scorers will receive Amazon gift cards valued at $50, $30 and $20.
Powered by Metadata Games, AnteaterTag@UCI is a pilot project launched by the UC Irvine Libraries to gather valuable information, called metadata, about archival pictures of people, places and events at UC Irvine from 1963 to 1982. Metadata – the labels that tell researchers and search engines what’s in a photograph or item – will help make these important images more accessible to students and scholars.
The Online Archive of UCI History is a digital collection created by the UC Irvine Libraries to preserve and make available for research core historical records of the university. It was developed, in part, for the upcoming anniversary of UC Irvine’s 1965 founding.
