Gov. Jerry Brown has appointed Jay Famiglietti, UC Irvine professor of Earth system science and civil & environmental engineering, to the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board. “I am honored by the appointment” said Famiglietti, who heads the UC Center for Hydrologic Modeling. “I am looking forward to working with the board and with the public to help improve the health of our region’s waters.” Famiglietti’s research has made him a frequent adviser to regional, state and national policymakers regarding key water issues. The Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board works to ensure a sustainable water future for the region covering much of southern California. Its current focus is watershed management and strengthening water quality standards.
