UC Irvine Earth system science professor Eric Rignot, along with associate project scientists Jeremie Mouginot and Bernd Scheuchl, have been awarded $2.6 million by NASA to continue mapping ice motion in Antarctica and to generate and distribute research data. “Our team is tremendously excited to be given by NASA the opportunity to continue our exploration of the Antarctic continent with satellite radar interferometry and deliver much-needed high-resolution ice velocity data to the scientific community,” Rignot said. “This is an important step in predicting ice sheets in a warming climate and their impact on global sea levels.”
