L.A. County district attorney to discuss her career, undergraduate days at UCI

EVENT:  Jackie Lacey ’79, the first female and first African American district attorney for Los Angeles County, will talk about her time as a UC Irvine undergraduate and how it paved the way for her successful law career. The public lecture, titled “A Journey Toward Justice,” is hosted by UC Irvine’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, School of Law and Cross-Cultural Center.

BACKGROUND:  After earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UC Irvine in 1979, Lacey went on to the University of Southern California Law School, graduating in 1982. She has prosecuted thousands of criminal cases in her 26-year career with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, including successfully prosecuting the county’s first race-motivated hate crime. Elected district attorney in November, Lacey oversees the nation’s largest local prosecutorial office, with 1,000 attorneys, 300 peace officers and 800 support staff.
