UC Irvine’s Olive Tree Initiative will host a series of public events focused on “conflicts and transitions” around the world from Feb. 25 to March 1. Each day during OTI Week, there will be a booth on Ring Mall at which students will discuss their work in the Middle East, Turkey and Armenia. The group will also host nightly activities at the UC Irvine Student Center, including a meet and greet with students who traveled to Turkey/Armenia and the Middle East; film screenings; and discussions of turmoil in Israel, Egypt and Syria. OTI is an educational program designed to promote conflict analysis and resolution by equipping students and community members with the education, training and experience necessary. Since 2007, OTI has expanded to six University of California campuses (UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley and UC San Diego). It also has chapters at Stanford University and San Diego State University and emerging chapters in Washington, D.C., and London. The UC Irvine group has led eight trips to the Middle East–primarily Israel, the West Bank and Jordan–and one trip to Turkey and Armenia.
