Shocktoberfest 2012: Fun in many forms
Annual campus blowout features concert, costume contest and court competitions.
Music and magic combined to make Shocktoberfest 2012 a monumental celebration of Anteater spirit Friday, Oct. 12. The annual party – sponsored
by Associated Students of UC Irvine and UCI Athletics – is a combination street festival, rock concert and official NCAA-sanctioned start to the basketball season. Among the highlights:
- Senior guard Daman Starring captured the yearly slam-dunk title during the “Midnight Magic” event in front of a full house at the Bren Events Center.
- Senior forward/guard Michael Wilder hit his last shot to pull out a late win for the men’s team over the UCI women’s squad in the three-point shooting competition.
- The costume contest winner identified himself as “Mr. Oompa-Loompa.” With his green hair, white eyebrows and worker’s uniform, he looked as if he’d be right at home on the set of the original “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”
- Tyga was a hit as headliner at the Shocktoberfest concert. Joining him were fellow rapper Dom Kennedy and hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar.
