Beall Center to host Orange County Mini Maker Faire
The community-driven, daylong event July 14 encourages participation in arts, crafts and technology.
UCI’s Beall Center for Art + Technology is hosting the Orange County Mini Maker Faire from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 14. The
daylong arts, crafts and technology fair will feature such DIY activities as a Swap-o-Rama, in which attendees bring in old clothing to share, select a garment and alter it using sewing machines, scissors, hot glue guns, buttons and appliques. There will also be knitting and crocheting demos, paper rocket creation and launching, sumo-bot building and wrestling, a “Learn to Solder” booth, a tutorial on making ice cream in a bag, live music and more. The community-driven, independently produced fair is inspired by the Maker Faire, which started in San Mateo in 2006 and has now expanded to Detroit and New York. The mini event’s motto, according to Beall Center programs director Samantha Younghans, is: “Join the movement; discover the maker in yourself.”
