Student Affairs' Sandy Jones among county's '40 under 40' to watch
Annual list compiled by OC Metro magazine includes leaders in business, philanthropy and education.
Leaders in government, business, philanthropy and education gathered Wednesday, May 16, at Newport Coast’s Resort at Pelican Hill to salute OC Metro magazine’s annual list of “40 under 40” people to watch in Orange County. UCI’s Sandra Jones, executive director of student government, was among the honorees. She says her greatest passion is ensuring that UCI students have the tools they need to become effective community leaders. Jones started The Dream Grant program, which funds innovative, student-led social change projects. Her Ph.D. dissertation centers on an ethnographic study of college student wellness. “I hope to work with colleges and universities across the nation to address health and wellness issues,” she says. “I think we could avoid a lot of public health issues down the road if students developed healthier habits – fewer energy drinks and more sleep, for example – at this critical transition point.”
