UC Irvine News Brief: Renowned public health physician to give talk Friday at UCI
As part of UCI’s Distinguished Speaker Series, Dr. Quentin Young of Chicago will address “Healthcare as a Human Right: A Physician’s Perspective over Five Decades.”
Dr. Quentin Young, who practiced medicine on Chicago’s South Side for decades and was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s personal physician in that city, will speak at UCI on Friday, Feb. 10. He is national coordinator of Physicians for a National Health Program and in 2009 was appointed health advocate for the state of Illinois by Gov. Patrick Quinn. A leader in public health policy and medical and social justice issues, Young (pictured with President Obama) blogs at The Huffington Post. He will talk from noon to 1 p.m. in Social Ecology I, Room 112, on “Healthcare as a Human Right: A Physician’s Perspective over Five Decades.” The event, part of UCI’s Distinguished Speaker Series, is free and open to the public.
