Four years ago, author Terry McDermott asked UC Irvine neurobiologist Gary Lynch if he could spend a few weeks, maybe a few months, in Lynch’s lab to learn and write about memory and its biological underpinnings. But he found much, much more. The result is 101 Theory Drive, a compelling, in-depth profile of Lynch’s research team and the high-pressure stakes of scientific discovery. The UCI literary journalism program is hosting a dialogue between McDermott and Lynch about the book and the key findings on memory that occurred during their time together. The event, which is free and open to the public, starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, in Humanities Gateway, Room 1010. A book signing will follow.
