UC Irvine’s School of Biological Sciences has formed the Center for Environmental Biology, which will coordinate research partnerships among UCI scientists and neighboring land groups. Projects will focus on integrating translational biological studies into the management of parks, wilderness and urban ecosystems. Research partners include the Irvine Ranch Conservancy, the Great Park and a number of public agencies. “The center is well positioned to promote research that will aid the comprehensive management of these areas,” says Albert Bennett, biological sciences dean. Diane Pataki (pictured), associate professor of ecology & evolutionary biology and Earth system science, will serve as the center’s founding director.
