UC Irvine medical students will observe World AIDS Day, Tuesday, Dec. 1, by placing 1,250 red flags on campus and at the UC Irvine Medical Center. Each flag represents 20,000 people who have lost their lives to the disease. More than half the flags will be planted in Aldrich Park to form a likeness of a large, red bow. At noon, medical students and faculty will host a gathering at Nelson Auditorium in the School of Medicine’s Irvine Hall. A moment of silence will precede speakers honoring those who have died of AIDS and those who continue the fight against it.
