Jay Lickfett, lead software engineer at UC Irvine’s Calit2 ResCUE project, has received the California Emergency Services Association’s Platinum Award for outstanding service in the emergency management field. Lickfett is principal designer of the project’s Disaster Web Portal, which provides real-time information for citizens of Ontario in case of a crisis and was put to the test in October 2007 when a large fire broke out in the city. “Jay’s contribution will ensure that citizens and the media receive accurate and timely information, a critical component of saving lives and property during an emergency,” said Jacob Green ’05, an emergency manager from the Ontario police department who worked closely with Lickfett and the ResCUE team on the portal. Green nominated Lickfett for the award, to be presented during the CESA annual conference in October.
