Asantha Cooray, associate professor of physics & astronomy at UC Irvine, has been awarded the title of Chancellor’s Fellow. This campus title honors and recognizes scholars of exceptional value to the university, whose recent achievements in scholarship indicate extraordinary promise for world-class contributions to knowledge. Cooray studies theoretical astrophysics, including cosmology, particle astrophysics and gravitational waves. He also has contributed to scientific understanding of the outer solar system, such as giant planets and Kuiper Belt objects.
