Mike Gillespie was formally introduced as UCI’s new head baseball coach Tuesday, Oct. 9, at a press conference in the Newkirk Pavilion at Anteater Ballpark. Gillespie, 67, served as head coach of the University of Southern California’s baseball team for 20 seasons before retiring in 2006, leading the Trojans to four College World Series and winning the 1998 national title. Gillespie replaces former head coach Dave Serrano, who resigned from UCI to coach at CSU Fullerton. Gillespie spent last season coaching a class-A team for the New York Yankees. He signed a three-year contract with UCI.
