UC Irvine men’s volleyball team visited the White House June 18, where they were honored for winning the NCAA Championship and treated to a talk by President George W. Bush that ended with a phrase they know well: “Go Anteaters!” The team, accompanied by Chancellor Michael V. Drake, met the president and had a formal photo taken with him before joining 18 other national championship teams on the South Lawn for an address. President Bush told the crowd about some of the different mascots that were represented by the teams and ended his address with, “and we even have Anteaters. Go Anteaters!” Team captains Brian Thornton and Jayson Jablonsky presented the president with a team jersey as well as a stuffed Anteater.
